Congress has appointed Supriya Shrinate as chairman of social media and digital platforms in its communications department, replacing Rohan Gupta who has been appointed party spokesperson with immediate effect.
“The Congress Speaker has approved the appointment of Supriya Shrinate as Chair of Social Media and Digital Platforms in the new Communications Department with immediate effect,” an official party statement read.
“The party appreciates the contribution of Rohan Gupta, the outgoing chairman of the social media department. Rohan Gupta has been appointed AICC Spokesperson with immediate effect,” the statement also read.
The Congress has reorganized its communication department by appointing Jairam Ramesh as the general secretary in charge. He also appointed Pawan Khera as President of Media and Publicity in the Communications Department.
It may be recalled that during the ‘Chintan Shivir’ in Udaipur held recently, the Congress decided to strengthen its communication wing to help improve its connection with people.
The communications department will have social media and digital platforms under its umbrella, as well as party communications wings in all states to ensure better coordination.
Shrinate worked for 18 years as a journalist in print and electronic media. In 2001, she started her career with India Today TV channel as a special correspondent. In 2004, she joined NDTV as an assistant editor. In 2008, she joined ET Now as Editor – News. She was named policy editor and editor of ET Now the same year.
In 2019, she resigned as editor of ET Now to contest India’s 2019 general election as a congressional candidate, competing from Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh.
Later the same year, she was appointed spokesperson for the AICC and participated extensively in televised debates.
She was a star congresswoman in the UP Assembly elections held in 2022.
